Fasuba Backs Ajayi in African 100m Record Pursuit

Olusoji Fasuba, the former Nigerian sprint king, has expressed his support for Kanyinsola Ajayi, who is aiming to break the African 100m record. Ajayi, a 20-year-old sprinter from Auburn University, recorded a time of 9.84 seconds at the NCAA East Region Championship, which qualifies him for the NCAA Championship and surpasses Fasuba's long-standing Nigerian record of 9.85 seconds set in Doha in May 2006.

This achievement places Ajayi at the top of the 2026 world rankings and highlights a significant moment in Nigerian sprinting history. Fasuba, who held the Nigerian record for two decades and the African record for 15 years, congratulated Ajayi on his accomplishment, emphasizing that records are meant to inspire future generations.
