Father-in-law Arrested for Harassing Lagos Widow

The Lagos State Government announced the arrest of a father-in-law accused of threatening and intimidating his daughter-in-law, Tosin, after the death of her husband. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency received reports on July 28, 2026, regarding the harassment, which included threats to life and physical assault.

Tosin alleged that she was forced out of her home with her children just eight days after her husband's death, with her father-in-law attempting to take control of the deceased's property. The agency confirmed that the matter had been reported to the Owutu Police Division, and preliminary feedback indicated that the alleged perpetrator was in custody while investigations continued.

Lawyers from the Project Protect Widows Initiative stated that Tosin, as the legally married wife, has rights over her late husband's estate, and any illegally sold property would be pursued through legal channels. The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to protecting the widow and her children.
