Fawehinmi Aims to Transform University of Abuja

Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, effective from December 2025, following a tumultuous leadership period that saw four vice chancellors in 11 months.

His appointment was announced by the university's 11th council on November 7, 2023. Fawehinmi, a professor of clinical anatomy and biomedical anthropology from the University of Port Harcourt, aims to unite the university community, which has been plagued by internal conflicts and mistrust.

In his maiden congregational meeting, he emphasized the need for cooperation among staff and highlighted his administration's core values of excellence, accountability, innovation, and inclusivity. Fawehinmi's administration has already initiated partnerships and projects, including the groundbreaking of a 1,152-bed female hostel through a public-private partnership.

He expressed gratitude to the university council and urged staff to work collaboratively to realize the vision of making the University of Abuja a world-class institution.
