FCC Chair Urges Super Falcons to Focus on World Cup

Hulayat Omidiran, the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, called on the Super Falcons to quickly move past their disappointing exit from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-finals held in Morocco. In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by FCC spokesperson Ademola Lawrence, Omidiran urged the players and coaching staff to remain united and focused as they prepare for their World Cup qualification playoff against South Africa.

She commended the team for their efforts despite the setback and encouraged them not to let the WAFCON disappointment distract them from their goal of securing a place in the World Cup. Omidiran, who has previously served as chairperson of the Nigeria Football Federation women’s committee, described the upcoming playoff as a crucial opportunity for the Falcons to recover and maintain their World Cup ambitions.

She appealed to Nigerians for support and confidence in the team as they aim to keep the dream alive.
