Nnadozie Confident Super Falcons Can Qualify for 2027 WC

Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Super Falcons’ Number 1 goalkeeper, stated that Nigeria still has a chance to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup despite a challenging path following their defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The Super Falcons, who are the defending champions, lost 1-0 to Cameroon, which secured Cameroon a spot in the World Cup alongside Algeria, Malawi, and Morocco.

As a result, Nigeria will now compete against South Africa in a playoff on Thursday for a chance to enter an inter-confederation qualifier later this year. Nnadozie emphasized the importance of maintaining hope and confidence, stating, “There’s still hope – it’s not over yet.” The Super Falcons have participated in all nine previous editions of the Women’s World Cup, with their best performance being a quarter-final appearance in 1999.

The upcoming playoff against South Africa is critical for Nigeria's aspirations to qualify for the expanded 32-team World Cup starting on June 24, 2027.
