FCT Launches MAMII to Reduce Maternal Mortality Rates

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has activated the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) to eliminate preventable maternal and newborn deaths. This announcement was made by Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), during the closing ceremony of a five-day workshop in Abuja.

The workshop involved stakeholders reviewing data and identifying challenges to develop tailored solutions for the FCT. The outcome is the FCT MAMII Implementation Suite, which outlines a roadmap for maternal health targets, service delivery, community engagement, and resource mobilization.

Dr. Fasawe emphasized that the initiative would enhance primary healthcare centers and emergency obstetric care, assigning roles to various community leaders and organizations. A task team was inaugurated to coordinate the initiative's implementation, monitor progress, and engage the community.

Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, the National Coordinator of MAMII, noted that the FCT is the 34th state to activate this initiative, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to maternal health.
