FCT Launches Free Health Insurance for Journalists

During the launch of a health insurance scheme in Abuja, Dr. Adedolapo Fasaw, the FCT mandate secretary, and Comrade Alhassan Yahya, the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), emphasized the necessity of free health insurance for journalists.

This initiative, which aims to enhance healthcare access for media professionals, is a significant step forward, with 150 journalists in Abuja enrolled in the Federal Capital Territory Health Insurance Scheme (FHI). Comrade Grace Ik, the chairman of the NUJ FCT council, highlighted this as a historic moment, marking the first time the council has initiated a health insurance program specifically designed to support the welfare of journalists in the territory.

Dr. Fasaw pledged continued support for journalists, announcing an additional 50 health insurance slots, bringing the total beneficiaries to 65% of NUJ members in the FCT.

The initiative aims to reduce maternal mortality and improve overall healthcare access for journalists.
