Building Collapse in Wuse Zone 4 Sparks Panic in Abuja

On Monday evening, panic gripped residents of Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, following the collapse of a building. The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) received a distress call at approximately 7:20 pm and promptly dispatched emergency responders to the scene.

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, confirmed that the building had been sealed by the FCT Administration’s Department of Development Control, and occupants were instructed to vacate before the collapse. At the time of reporting, no casualties had been confirmed, but it was unclear if anyone was trapped under the debris.

Rescue operations were ongoing, with emergency responders awaiting an excavator to assist. SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, stated that a police response team, led by ACP Edward Akaniyene and ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu, was on-site.

Investigations into the cause of the collapse have commenced, and residents were advised to remain calm and avoid the area.
