Building Collapse in Abuja Sparks Emergency Response

A building in Abuja collapsed on Monday evening at approximately 7:45 pm, shortly after being sealed by the Department of Development Control. The FCT Police Command received a distress call and deployed a response team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Edward Akaniyene, and Area Commander, Metro, ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu, to the scene.

They collaborated with personnel from various agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and the Security Service Department. As of the police statement, no victims had been confirmed, and search and rescue efforts were ongoing to determine if anyone was trapped under the debris.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the building had been previously marked and sealed. The police are continuing their investigations to ascertain the circumstances and possible causes of the collapse.
