Abuja Building Collapse: Police and Rescue Operations Ongoing
On Monday at approximately 7:45 p.m., the FCT Police Command received a distress call regarding a building collapse on Abidjan Street, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja. SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer, reported that a response team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Edward Akaniyene from the Department of Operations and Area Commander ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu promptly arrived at the scene.
They were joined by personnel from various emergency response agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and the Security Service Department. Preliminary investigations indicated that the building had previously been marked and sealed by the Department of Development Control, Abuja.
As of now, no victims have been confirmed, and search and rescue operations are ongoing. Investigations are also being conducted to ascertain the circumstances and potential causes of the collapse.
The Command has urged residents to remain calm and avoid the affected area.
