INEC Declares PDP Winner of Gwagwalada Council Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The PDP candidate secured a total of 22,165 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, who garnered 17,788 votes.

Other candidates included those from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with 1,687 votes and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 1,336 votes. The election took place on Saturday, February 21, and was part of a broader electoral process involving six area council chairmen in the FCT.

Additionally, a former presidential media aide commented on the impact of the ongoing Ramadan fast on voter turnout, noting reduced physical movement during fasting hours and increased spiritual focus, which contributed to low turnout in several polling units.
