FCTA and IHS Distribute 10,000 Gas Cylinders in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and IHS are intensifying efforts to discourage the burning of firewood for cooking in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). They have distributed 10,000 free gas cylinders to vulnerable populations as part of the "Breath Clean Air Abuja" initiative, which is sponsored by IHS.

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for FCT, expressed concerns about the health challenges posed by indoor air pollution resulting from the use of firewood and charcoal.

This initiative aims to significantly reduce the reliance on these traditional cooking methods by promoting cleaner gas alternatives. Dr.

Dolapo She, the project lead, noted that many residents in Abuja, particularly in metropolitan areas, are unaware of the adverse effects of cooking with firewood. The initiative, which began two years ago under Barrister Nyesom Wike's administration, aims to create awareness and provide cleaner cooking options to improve public health and environmental conditions.
