FCTA Intensifies Action Against Illegal Street Racing in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to intensify enforcement against illegal street car racing in Abuja, driven by rising public safety concerns in residential areas. Mr Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, made this announcement during an inspection of infrastructure projects on Monday.

He noted that while the expanding road network has improved traffic flow, some motorists are engaging in reckless driving and unauthorized racing, endangering other road users and residents. Wike stated that the administration has not yet received formal complaints pinpointing specific locations for these activities but assured that the matter would be addressed promptly once reports are verified.

He directed the FCT Traffic Management Department to enhance enforcement, increase patrols, and prevent illegal racing on public roads. Wike emphasized that organized motor racing should only occur at designated venues, not on public roads.

The FCTA will continue monitoring compliance with traffic regulations as part of its broader road safety initiatives.
