FCTA to Enforce Ban on Illegal Car Racing in Abuja

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared a crackdown on illegal car racing within residential neighborhoods in Abuja, emphasizing the significant threat these activities pose to public safety and the lives of innocent citizens. During a project inspection on Monday, Wike acknowledged the praise for the newly constructed road networks but warned that they should not be turned into racing tracks.

He addressed the issue of reckless driving and organized street racing, stating that civic rights have limitations when public safety is at risk. Wike appealed to motorists to recognize that their rights are bounded by the need to protect lives.

Although the administration has not received formal complaints about specific locations, he assured residents that immediate action would be taken through internal enforcement channels. Wike committed to engaging the FCT Traffic Management section to enforce compliance, reiterating that high-speed racing in residential areas would be strictly prohibited, while speed events on highways would not be stopped.
