FCTA and FRSC Launch Traffic Violation Crackdown in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other agencies, has initiated a special enforcement operation against traffic light violations, driving against traffic, and other road offences in Abuja. Mandate Secretary of the FCTA Transportation Secretariat, Mr. Chinedum Elechi, announced this during a press conference on Thursday.

He stated that a task force would conduct patrols and apprehend violators, who will face the full weight of the law. This enforcement action is a response to the increasing disregard for traffic rules, particularly following the expansion of the FCT road network under the urban renewal programme led by FCT Minister Barr.

Nyesom Wike. Elechi emphasized the importance of this collaboration with the FRSC, marking it as a significant step towards improving traffic management in Abuja.

The operation will target violations such as disregarding traffic lights, illegal parking, and unauthorized route usage, with offenders facing appropriate sanctions, including mandatory medical evaluations where necessary.
