Wike Vows to Curb Illegal Street Racing in Abuja

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared a firm stance against illegal street car racing in residential neighborhoods across Abuja, citing significant threats to public safety and the lives of innocent citizens. During a project inspection on Monday, Wike acknowledged the appeal of the newly constructed road networks but stressed that they should not be misused for racing.

He pointed out that while civic rights exist, they have limits when public safety is at stake. Wike mentioned that the administration had not yet received formal complaints about specific locations but assured residents of immediate action through internal enforcement channels.

He plans to collaborate with the FCT Traffic Management Department to ensure compliance and reiterated that high-speed racing in residential areas would be strictly prohibited. Motorsport enthusiasts are encouraged to conduct speed events only in designated tracks or approved non-residential areas.

Wike confirmed that law enforcement and traffic regulatory bodies would increase patrols in high-risk zones.
