FEI to Inspect Nigeria's Equestrian Facilities for Affiliation

The Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) is set to conduct a four-day inspection of Nigeria's equestrian facilities from September 28 to October 1, as the Nigeria Equestrian Federation (NEF) aims for full affiliation with the FEI. This inspection follows the Nigeria Olympic Committee's recent recognition of the NEF as an Olympic sport federation, which Dr Anthony Obiorah, President of the NEF, described as a historic milestone.
The FEI delegates will travel between Abuja and Lagos, inspecting facilities and meeting with the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission. Obiorah emphasized that while recognition is significant, the real challenge lies in implementation, requiring sustainable funding, improved facilities, and enhanced technical capacity.
Vice-President Vanessa Asuni stated that the immediate goal is to establish a functioning international pathway for Nigerian riders. The NEF is in the final stages of the affiliation process, which will provide access to international events and development programs.
