Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has publicly acknowledged Gilbert Chagoury, an 80-year-old philanthropist and industrialist, as his mentor. Otedola described Chagoury as a role model whose vision and discipline have shaped Nigeria's development.

In a heartfelt tribute, Otedola highlighted Chagoury's significant contributions to urban planning and infrastructure development in the nation. Otedola praised Chagoury's inspirational impact on future generations of Nigerian entrepreneurs.

In a birthday post on social media, Otedola recounted Chagoury's foresight and commitment to transformative projects that have shaped Lagos' iconic development. He specifically mentioned Chagoury's influence on Nigeria's urban and economic landscape, citing examples like the ultra-luxury residential enclave of Banana Island in Lagos and the Eko Atlantic project, a massive land reclamation and urban development initiative designed to protect Victoria Island and Ikoyi from coastal erosion.

Otedola emphasized that Eko Atlantic reflects Chagoury's belief that Nigeria deserves the best in African development and should boldly assert itself.
