Nigeria Opens Applications for 2027 Commonwealth Scholarships

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the opening of applications for the 2027 Commonwealth Master’s and PhD Scholarships, aimed at eligible Nigerian students wishing to study in the United Kingdom. The scholarships are administered by the Federal Scholarship Board under the Federal Ministry of Education.

Applicants for the Master’s program must possess a first degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division, while PhD candidates must hold a relevant Master’s degree and a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in their first degree. Both categories require applicants to have secured admission into at least two UK institutions.

PhD applicants must also include a supporting statement from a prospective supervisor. Additional eligibility criteria include evidence of participation in the National Youth Service Corps.

The selection process will evaluate academic merit, development impact, and the quality of the study plan. Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Application System by October 20, 2026, along with necessary documents.

Proposed studies should align with Nigeria’s developmental priorities.
