UK Awards 68 Nigerians Chevening, Commonwealth Scholarships

On September 12, 2026, the United Kingdom awarded scholarships to 68 Nigerians, comprising 12 Chevening scholars and 56 Commonwealth scholars, to pursue master’s and PhD programmes in various fields in the UK. The awards were presented during pre-departure ceremonies held in Abuja and Lagos.

At the Abuja event, Ms Vicky Seymour, the Chargée d’Affaires of the British High Commission, described the scholarships as an investment in both the beneficiaries and Nigeria's future. She encouraged the scholars to return to Nigeria equipped with knowledge and experiences that would contribute to the country's development.

Among the recipients, Sarah Nathaniel Yanayork, a Chevening scholar, will study International Human Rights Law at the University of Essex, viewing the scholarship as an opportunity to enhance her commitment to good governance, human rights, and inclusive development.
