Nigeria Approves Acquisition of Two New Communications Satellites

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) of Nigeria approved the acquisition of two communications satellites, NIGCOMSAT 2A and NIGCOMSAT 2B, as announced by the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) through a statement signed by Acting Head of Corporate Affairs Division, Stephen Kwande. This approval advances the deployment of next-generation High-Throughput Communication Satellites aimed at expanding Nigeria's satellite capacity and enhancing broadband, broadcasting, enterprise, and critical communications services.

NIGCOMSAT will oversee the implementation under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy's supervision. The deployment aims to improve connectivity in underserved and hard-to-reach communities, bolster national communications resilience, and increase Nigeria's capability in delivering satellite e-enabled services.

Managing Director/CEO of NIGCOMSAT, Jane Egerton-Idehen, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and support, emphasizing that the satellites will strengthen national satellite capacity and support critical communications across Nigeria.
