FG Approves Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Concession Plan

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the concession of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as part of a public-private partnership arrangement, as disclosed by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, on Monday during a press briefing at the State House following a Federal Executive Council meeting. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the reconstruction of the failing Lagos-Badagry Expressway section using reinforced concrete technology due to safety concerns regarding the deteriorating pavement.

The council approved a total of 23 road projects across 10 states, including Adamawa, Taraba, Ebonyi, Kwara, Cross River, Kogi, Lagos, Niger, Oyo, and Plateau, with a combined value of approximately ₦2.78 trillion. Additionally, the council approved the reconstruction of 32.2 kilometers of road projects, with costs ranging from ₦14 billion to ₦15 billion, attributed to rising construction material costs.

The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, announced the approval for the construction of a Boko airstrip in Benue State, with a budget of ₦34 billion, aimed at serving as an import hub for agricultural activities in the Middle Belt.
