FG Approves 50 Doctors, 100 Nurses for Correctional Centres

The Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has approved the employment of 50 doctors and 100 nurses to be deployed across the nation's correctional centres. This announcement was made by Dr.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by Alhaji Moham Idri in Abuja. The decision comes in response to a significant shortage of medical personnel in correctional centre hospitals, particularly highlighted by the lack of doctors at the Kuje correctional centre, which has hindered the ability to perform major surgeries.

The Minister emphasized the government's commitment to improving healthcare for inmates and mentioned initiatives such as training programs aimed at building capacity among inmates. Additionally, the government has increased food allowances by 50 percent to enhance the welfare of inmates.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo underscored the need for the ministry to showcase its achievements in national security strategies and collaborate with various sectors to reduce crime and protect national assets.
