Niger Gov Bago Launches Health Facilities, Hires 1500 Staff

On a recent occasion in Minna, Niger State, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago inaugurated new health facilities, including the IBB Special Hospital. He announced the recruitment of over 1,500 medical personnel in the health sector within one year.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve healthcare delivery and reduce medical tourism by providing affordable medical treatment within the country. The governor highlighted a memorandum of understanding signed with Egypt and the Soviet Union to enhance the management and training of Nigerian medical personnel.

He also disclosed that 20 primary healthcare centers across the state have been renovated, with upgrades to two level 2 primary healthcare centers and work ongoing on 110 others. Additionally, 22 general hospitals have been renovated, and a new facility has been commissioned with a 2-megawatt solar plant to ensure uninterrupted energy supply for patients and staff.

Dr. Bala Waziri, Chief Medical Director of the IBB Specialist Hospital, noted that this new facility is the first of its kind in the country.
