FG Supports Abuja Garment Factory to Boost Local Industry

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed its support for a newly commissioned garment factory in Abuja, viewing it as a strategic initiative to reduce the country's heavy reliance on imported clothing and to enhance local industrialization. The factory, established by Mo Afriqu, was unveiled in a statement issued on Wednesday by Olajumoke Oduwol, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

Oduwol commended the founder and creative director of Mo Afriqu, Omobolanle Olawol, for her commitment to investing in Nigeria's textile and garment industry. The government anticipates that the new factory will leverage opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to expand its reach beyond Nigeria.

Oduwol emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in economic growth and acknowledged the resilience of Nigerian entrepreneurs despite operational challenges. Olawol highlighted the launch of the Modish brand as a defining moment for the company and the broader industry, noting the historical challenges faced by Nigeria's garment sector, which has struggled against high volumes of low-cost imports.
