FG Distributes Electric Vehicles to Civil Servants

On Wednesday, the Federal Government announced the delivery of the first batch of electric vehicles to civil servants, part of its initiative to promote cleaner energy and reduce transportation costs. Joseph Osanipin, the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), disclosed this after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

Osanipin stated that this delivery marks the beginning of the government's plan to expand access to electric vehicles and develop necessary infrastructure for alternative-energy transportation. He mentioned that electric vehicle infrastructure has been deployed in about 16 universities across Nigeria.

Osanipin emphasized that transitioning to alternative fuels requires more than just policy; it necessitates infrastructure such as filling stations and gas production facilities. He noted a significant increase in licensed companies for gas retailing, from four to 81, indicating growing private-sector participation in the government's Compressed Natural Gas initiative.

He also acknowledged concerns regarding commercial transport operators not passing savings from lower CNG costs to commuters.
