FG Launches Electric Bus Programme for Civil Servants

The Federal Government has launched an electric bus programme, unveiling 37 electric buses as the first batch of 100 approved under the Renewed Hope Mass Transit Programme. This initiative, aimed at easing transportation difficulties for federal civil servants, was inaugurated on Wednesday at Eagle Square, Abuja.

Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, described the commissioning as her “parting gift” to civil servants, occurring just before the end of her tenure. She emphasized that the initiative would help reduce transportation costs and improve workers' safety and productivity.

The buses will initially operate on selected routes in a pilot phase before expanding nationwide, eventually reaching Federal Secretariats across various states. Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, noted that each bus can carry up to 200 passengers and travel at least 200 kilometers on a full charge.

The full deployment of all 100 buses is expected by December 2026.
