FG Launches 12MW Solar Mini-Grids for 13,000 Homes

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the development of four solar hybrid mini-grid projects in Rivers State, which will provide reliable electricity to 13,492 households, businesses, and public institutions. This initiative is part of Nigeria's strategy to achieve universal energy access and sustain economic growth.

The project, with a combined capacity of 11.9 megawatts, is being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) under the Renewable Energy Scale-Up Program, supported by the World Bank. During the groundbreaking ceremony, Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, represented by Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the benefits of the Renewable Hope Agenda to the people of Rivers State.

Dr. Abba Aliyu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the REA, reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian community is left behind, emphasizing that the mini-grids will deliver clean, reliable, and affordable electricity, stimulating business, strengthening healthcare and education services, creating jobs, and improving livelihoods across beneficiary communities.
