FG Launches 13.92MWp Solar Mini-Grid in Yobe State

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated a groundbreaking ceremony for a total of 13.92 megawatt-peak (MWp) interconnected hybrid solar mini-grid projects in Yobe State. The ceremony occurred on Wednesday across various sites, including Damaturu, Bade, Nguru, and Potiskum.

This initiative aims to stabilize power supply, stimulate local commerce, and reduce energy costs, supported by the delivery of 40 distribution transformers. The project is executed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) with backing from the World Bank and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for modernizing Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

The installations include a 1.76 MWp solar system at Waziri Ibrahim Estate in Damaturu, a 2.98 MWp system in Gashua, a 3.20 MWp installation in Nguru, and two projects in Potiskum: a 3.20 MWp plant at Yarimaram and a 2.78 MWp project at Rugan Fulani. Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State expressed gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing its alignment with his administration's vision for infrastructural growth.
