Nigeria and Chad Collaborate on Abidjan-Lagos Highway Project

On a recent date, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, engaged in discussions with a high-level delegation from the Republic of Chad, led by Chadian Minister of Infrastructure and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda. The talks centered on the implementation of the Abidjan-Lagos highway project, particularly the Fluvio Lacustrine Connectivity Programme and a proposal for a direct transportation link between Nigeria and Chad, which includes constructing a bridge over Lake Chad, spanning 65 kilometers.

Umahi expressed Nigeria's commitment to fostering partnerships to address shared challenges and enhance the economic potential of the Sahel region. He emphasized the importance of the project for both nations' development and urged the Chadian delegation to communicate the specifics of collaboration needed from Nigeria.

Kourda highlighted the initiative's potential to improve regional connectivity, economic development, and cooperation. The meeting included key officials from the Federal Ministry of Works and representatives from Chad, including the Ambassador of Chad to Nigeria.
