New VC Arogundad Tackles Nigeria's Healthcare Challenges

Prof. Fatiu Arogundad, the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Abeokuta, spoke about the significant challenges facing Nigeria's healthcare sector, particularly the increasing migration of medical professionals abroad.

During a recent event honoring his appointment, Arogundad acknowledged the pressures on the medical sector due to brain drain and highlighted ongoing government interventions aimed at addressing these issues. He noted that the government is working to boost training capacity for doctors and healthcare professionals through the establishment of new schools.

Arogundad also mentioned the university's progress in infrastructure and manpower development, revealing plans to recruit nearly 300 staff members. He assured students and parents of a commitment to creating a world-class medical university capable of producing globally competitive healthcare professionals.

Prof. Babatunde Salako, who spoke at the event, praised Arogundad's extensive contributions to medicine and urged him to embrace inclusive leadership.
