FG Lauds Diaspora Health Professionals for Impact

The Federal Government of Nigeria praised health professionals in the diaspora for their significant contributions to healthcare delivery through the 2026 Nigeria Diaspora Health Impact Initiative (NDHII). At the 2026 National Diaspora Merit Award Dinner in Abuja, Dr.

Iziaq Adekunle Salako, the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, described the initiative as a patriotic effort showcasing how diaspora expertise can transform the health sector. He acknowledged the voluntary return of thousands of Nigerian healthcare professionals to provide specialist services and mentor local workers.

The initiative benefited nearly 10,000 Nigerians through various medical services and trained over 2,000 frontline healthcare workers. Key achievements included training over 1,000 health workers in safer birth practices and conducting more than 4,000 medical consultations and 500 surgeries across several states.

Dr. Salako reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing engagement with the diaspora, including simplifying licensing and supporting medical missions.
