Nigeria Launches Diaspora Health Initiative to Boost Healthcare

The Nigerian government unveiled the Nigerian Diaspora Advanced Health Programme (NIDAH) on July 25, 2023, in Abuja. This initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria's healthcare system by facilitating knowledge exchange and support from healthcare professionals in the diaspora.

Coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, represented by Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the program aligns with Nigeria's health sector renewal and promotes collaboration among government, development partners, and the private sector.

The initiative is set to run until July 2026 and seeks to enhance the capacity of Nigerian health workers through continuous professional development. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NIDCOM, described the program as a landmark initiative that transforms the migration of Nigerian health professionals into a strategic asset for national development.

The program also includes a commitment from federal tertiary hospitals to engage with diaspora health professionals actively. The World Health Organization, represented by Dr.

Pavel Ursu, expressed support for the initiative, emphasizing its potential for knowledge transfer and mentorship.
