Nigeria Launches 505KW Solar Mini-Grid in Lagos State

On Wednesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Minister of Power Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, commissioned a 505 kilowatt peak (KWP) solar mini-grid in Eredo Community, Lagos State. This project is part of the government's agenda to improve electricity access across Nigeria.

Tegbe described the initiative as a practical demonstration of the Federal Government's commitment to providing cleaner, reliable, and affordable electricity to households, schools, and healthcare facilities. Dr.

Abba Aliyu, Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), emphasized the project's significance in transforming lives and supporting economic opportunities. The REA is currently developing 1,000 mini-grids nationwide, with support from the World Bank and other partners.

The project aligns with Nigeria's energy transition plan, targeting net-zero emissions by 2060. The REA is also pursuing an additional 5MW of renewable energy capacity to support local industries and enhance electricity reliability.
