FG Adds 50,000 NYSC Slots to Address Graduate Backlog

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the creation of an additional 50,000 mobilization slots for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, aimed at addressing the increasing number of graduates awaiting enlistment. This announcement was made by the NYSC Director-General, Nafiu, during the inauguration of a remodeled clinic at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja on Saturday.

The additional slots have already been incorporated into the NYSC's 2026 budget. Nafiu revealed that the scheme plans to mobilize 450,000 prospective corps members in 2026, with a focus on safety during deployment.

The Federal Government's 2027 budget will also include provisions to improve corps member welfare, such as upgrading kits and enhancing transport allowances. Nafiu emphasized that the remodeling of the clinic is part of broader efforts to improve staff welfare and operational efficiency within the NYSC, which has undergone several reforms over the past year.
