FG Declares April 3 and 6, 2026, Public Holidays for Easter

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate the Easter celebrations. This announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the federal government.

April 3 marks Good Friday, while April 6 is observed as Easter Monday. Minister Tunji-Ojo extended congratulations to Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora on the occasion of Easter, describing the season as one that reflects renewal.

He urged Nigerians to embody virtues such as selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love, which exemplify the teachings of Jesus Christ. The minister stressed the importance of peace and coexistence among citizens and reiterated the federal government's commitment to policies aimed at national development.

He encouraged Nigerians to use this festive period to promote unity and goodwill. The announcement aligns with Nigeria's multi-religious landscape, where major religious celebrations are recognized as public holidays.
