FG Disburses N3.41bn to 73,000 TVET Trainees

The Federal Government of Nigeria has disbursed N3.41 billion in monthly stipends to 73,000 beneficiaries enrolled in the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) program. This payment is part of a larger N13.98 billion initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment and bridging the skills gap in Nigeria.

The initiative, launched on May 30, 2025, is implemented in partnership with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. The program provides tuition-free vocational training and monthly stipends of N22,500 to trainees.

Currently, there are 1,700 accredited training centers nationwide offering courses in 30 priority trades. The initiative aims to create a pipeline of skilled workers and empower young Nigerians with entrepreneurial skills.

Despite a reported unemployment rate of 4.3% in the second quarter of 2024, youth unemployment remains significantly higher among Nigerians aged 15-34, highlighting the need for vocational training to align with labor market demands.
