Nigeria Opens Applications for Second Phase of TVET Program

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the commencement of applications for the second cohort of its Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program, aimed at enhancing skill acquisition and employment opportunities. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, disclosed that the application portal opened at 4:00 PM WAT.

The first phase of the program attracted significant interest, receiving 1.3 million applications nationwide last year. The TVET program is part of a broader initiative under President Bola Tinubu's administration to strengthen Nigeria's skill development ecosystem and reduce unemployment.

The second phase will offer fully funded training across multiple vocational and technical fields, featuring two training tracks: a six-month short-term certification program and an advanced track for individuals with prior learning. Participants will receive free tuition, a monthly stipend, and a nationally recognized certificate upon completion.

The program also aims to support graduates in establishing enterprises through access to business loans.
