FG Disburses Over ₦303 Billion for Education Loans

The federal government of Nigeria has disbursed more than ₦303 billion to beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) across public tertiary institutions over the past two years. Mr. Akintunde Sawyer, Managing Director of NELFUND, announced this during the Renewed Hope Student Leaders Engagement and Digital Acceleration Programme held in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The program, themed “Empowering Students with Digital Skills and Innovation,” aimed to equip students with essential skills in the Information and Communication Technology sector. Mr. Sawyer emphasized that the future of Nigeria relies on the skills and entrepreneurial spirit of its youth, noting that 850,000 students have benefited from the scheme out of 1.5 million applications.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, represented by Dr. Kareem Lateef, encouraged students to utilize government opportunities for personal development. Comrade Sunday Asefon stated that the Tinubu administration is committed to creating a supportive environment for students, while Prof. Mohammed Isa Kida highlighted the initiative's potential to stabilize the university system.
