FG Backs ALGON's "Light Up the Nation" Initiative

The Federal Government of Nigeria has endorsed the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON)'s "Light Up the Nation" initiative, which is seen as a crucial step towards improving security and enhancing community aesthetics while stimulating economic activity. Georg Akum, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, provided this endorsement during a courtesy visit from ALGON's leadership, led by President Illyasu Zakari, in Abuja.

The initiative aims to beautify communities, deter criminal activities, and improve lighting across urban and rural areas. Akum described the initiative as timely, noting that adequate lighting significantly enhances safety and creates an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

He called for detailed program proposals, indicating that the Federal Government is ready to consider broader support. Akum further emphasized ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, which aim to strengthen local government administration and increase funding for grassroots operations.

Zakari reaffirmed ALGON's commitment to implementing the "Light Up Nigeria 774" initiative, which seeks to transform all 774 local government areas in the country.
