Stakeholders Demand Direct Security Funding for LGAs

Stakeholders are calling for direct funding for security in local government areas (LGAs) to strengthen grassroots intelligence and improve community safety. Retired Air Vice Marshal Abdul Ganiyu Olabisi, a member of the Offa Security Committee, highlighted that current security funding controlled at the state level limits local responses, leaving communities vulnerable amid rising security threats.

He emphasized the necessity of equipping local authorities with adequate financial support to foster better coordination among security agencies. Olabisi noted that grassroots communities are overstretched and rely on vigilant groups for protection due to a shortage of manpower and logistics.

He proposed establishing a state police system and urged the federal government to implement direct funding for local security outfits. The stakeholders unanimously stressed the urgency of this funding to enhance local security responses and protect lives and property effectively.
