Nigeria Boosts Cybersecurity with Digital Forensics Expansion

Nigeria is expanding its digital forensics capabilities to strengthen its cybersecurity framework, recognizing the increasing sophistication of cyber threats. Major General Jame Myam, Director General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, highlighted the importance of enhancing national capabilities in digital investigations.

This initiative aligns with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to build knowledge-driven security solutions. The partnership with Sentinel Forensics Limited aims to equip personnel with the necessary skills to confront evolving digital threats, including cybercrime and artificial intelligence-enabled attacks.

The program seeks to improve inter-agency collaboration among various security agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent National Electoral Commission. The initiative reflects a broader recognition that future security challenges will increasingly require advanced investigative capabilities to recover, analyze, and preserve digital evidence, thereby supporting national security decision-making.
