Gombe State Launches 1MW Solar Mini-Grid Project

The Federal Government commissioned a 1 megawatt solar mini-grid project in the Tallasse community of Balanga Local Government Area, Gombe State. This event, held on Saturday, also marked the groundbreaking for four interconnected mini-grid projects with a total capacity of 16 megawatts across Dukku, Bajoga, Kumo, and Kaltungo communities.
The initiative includes a 2.4 megawatt battery energy storage system and productive-use equipment such as electric tricycles, an electric groundnut oil processing plant, a modular electric rice mill, and multi-flour electric grinding machines. Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya emphasized the project's significance for local economic empowerment, particularly in agriculture.
He acknowledged the partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency and the support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe. Tegbe noted that these projects reflect the practical realization of the Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to enhance rural economic opportunities through renewable energy.
