Federal Government Launches 1MW Solar Project in Gombe

The Federal Government has commissioned a 1-megawatt (MW) solar mini-grid with a 2.4-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system in Tallasse, Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State. The commissioning took place on Saturday and marked the beginning of construction for four interconnected mini-grid projects with a total capacity of 16MW, serving the communities of Dukku, Bajoga, Kumo, and Kaltungo.
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya stated that this initiative is a result of the partnership between the Gombe State Government and the Federal Government through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). The project includes productive-use equipment to connect reliable electricity with agriculture and local enterprises.
REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu noted that the 1MW Tallasse project will serve 6,028 connections, including residential and commercial units. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe emphasized that these projects align with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at expanding access to economic opportunities across Nigeria.
