Nigerian Government Honors D’Tigress with Housing and Awards

The Nigerian government has honored its commitment to the D’Tigress, the women's basketball team, by awarding them housing and national honors following their triumph at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket. The National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade, announced the fulfillment of this promise on Monday.

President Bola Tinubu had pledged $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to every member of the coaching staff after the team successfully defended their continental title. Each player will receive a three-bedroom flat in the Renew Hope Estate, with the housing documents presented to players including Ami Okonkwo, Palla Kunaiyi, and others.

Although some team members could not attend the ceremony in Lyon, France, they will receive their packages later. Team captain Ami Okonkwo expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized the team's commitment to representing Nigeria with pride as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup.
