Nigeria Launches Committee for Cotton and Textile Board

On April 24, 2025, the Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated a committee to drive the establishment of the Cotton, Textile, and Garment Development Board (CTGDB) as part of efforts to revitalize the country's cotton, textile, and garment (CTG) sector. This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda," which prioritizes economic diversification and job creation.

The committee, chaired by Mr. Abia Ifiok Bassei, includes members from various organizations such as the Nigerian Textile Manufacturers Association and the Fashion Design Association of Nigeria.

The committee's responsibilities include reviewing decisions from the National Economic Council related to the board's establishment, proposing budgetary provisions, and recommending supportive policies. The cotton and textile sector has faced numerous challenges, including declining production and inadequate infrastructure, which the committee aims to address by prioritizing local content and encouraging public-private partnerships.
