FG Launches National Steering Committee for Cooperatives

On June 2, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated the National Steering Committee (NSC) for the Renewed Hope Cooperative Reform and Revamp Programme (RHCRRP) during a ceremony held at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Abuja. The initiative aims to achieve food security and sustainable economic development from 2025 to 2030.

Sen. Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, emphasized that the RHCRRP aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda to modernize cooperatives and enhance transparency in agricultural investments. The NSC will serve as the apex coordinating body for policy guidance and oversight of the programme, focusing on strengthening cooperative governance and integrating digital solutions.

The committee will also establish a cooperative bank and promote agricultural value chains, targeting youth, women, and vulnerable groups. Dr. Marcus Olaniyi Ogunbiyi will supervise the committee, which includes representatives from various federal ministries.
