FG issues fresh flood alert to 9 northern states

The Federal Government has issued a fresh flood alert to nine northern states, warning of heavy rainfall between August 25 and 29, 2025. The circular, signed by the Director of the Erosion Flood Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, highlighted specific locations in Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Adamawa, and Borno as likely to experience flooding.

The states of Bauchi, Katsina, and Jigawa have been placed on red alert, with several towns in each state listed as at risk. Prominent towns like Mubi in Adamawa, Kaita in Katsina, and Gwaram in Jigawa are among those on high alert.

The circular also mentioned areas in Gombe, Borno, Kano, Zamfara, and Sokoto as being on a watchlist. The public has been advised to take necessary.
