16 States on Alert for Five-Day Flooding, Ministry Issues Warning

The Federal Ministry of Environment has warned that 16 states in Nigeria may experience five days of heavy rainfall leading to flooding from October 4 to October 8. The National Flood Early Warning Centre identified 39 locations across these states that are at risk.

The ministry urged state governments and stakeholders to take precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impact of the predicted flooding. States likely to be affected include Delta, Yobe, Sokoto, Katsina, Oyo, Kebbi, Kano, Niger, Kwara, Benue, Borno, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Enugu.

The warning comes as part of efforts to prevent loss of lives and property during the rainy season.
