FG Issues Fresh Flood Alert To 9 Northern States After Deaths in Yobe

The Federal Ministry of Environment's National Flood Early Warning Center has issued a fresh flood alert to nine northern states in Nigeria following recent deaths in Yobe state. The alert, valid from August 25 to 29, 2025, warns of heavy rainfall and potential flooding in Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, and other states.

The Director of the Erosion Flood Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, urged stakeholders in the affected regions to closely monitor the situation and report any emerging issues. Specific settlements in Adamawa and Katsina states are at high risk, with towns like Mubi, Shelleng, Kaita, and Bindawa identified as particularly vulnerable.

The warning comes after a previous alert last week, emphasizing the need for immediate preparedness and evacuation in flood-prone areas along the River Jebba. Residents and local authorities are urged to remain vigilant and responsive to the evolving conditions.
